I was out with a teen shopping as part as a birthday celebration and came across what I thought were Pokemon themed legos, but lacking the Lega branding. On closer inspection, I found that these were from Mega Construx, a subsidiary of Mattel.
I was curious about this and did some research. It turns out that the patent for Lego bricks expired in 1978. This means that anyone can make bricks that are compatible with Lego bricks. This is why you see so many off-brand legos in the market. Mega Construx is one of the more popular ones. The Mega Construx brand originated from Mega Bloks, which was a Canadian company that was acquired by Mattel in 2014.
There are two packages available. One is a package with a single Pokemon figure and a Pokeball. The other contains a single Pokeball and four Pokemon figures. The figures are small and are not articulated. And, of course, construction is required. If you want to have a ball for each figure, then you'll want to purchase the individual ball-figure sets. You end up paying more, but you also end up getting more.
Building the figures isn't hard, but it is enjoyable. I was able to figure out how to construct some of them on my own. But if you run into trouble, the set comes with instructions. The instructions are easy to follow and have illustrations for each step.
